We travelled Southeast, passing harbour porpoises and seals on route towards the great saltee island where we came upon 3 Fin Whales, the second largest mammal on the planet. The whales were just south of the Island. After observing these stunning whales, we made our way west to just over 5 miles directly south of Hookhead Lighthouse to discover the first Humpback Whale of the year to be recorded inshore in Irish waters. The Humpback graced our presence with several amazing tail flukes into the sunset! The whale was also surrounded by up to 20 Common Dolphins which seemed to be bow riding the whale which was amazing for all onboard the Rebecca C to witness. Photo ID images have been sent to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group for their Humpback catalogue, tail fluke images have confirmed that this Humpback is not 'Hookie' from last year. Martin Colfer can be contacted on 087 2657177 for further information about Whale Watching off the Wexford Coast.
